The small English town of Carnforth is located within the northern part of Lancashire and it is located at the most north eastern point of Morecambe Bay beside the River Keer. The town of Carnforth has a population of about five thousand three hundred and fifty. Carnforth is located close to both the hills and the coast along the west coast railway line and also on the A6 road. The Lancashire canal also passes through the town of Carnforth.
A lot of the history of the town of Carnforth is set around the ironworks and the railway. The town of Carnforth was an ideal place for ironworks as there was a large amount of limestone within the local area and limestone is one of the main ingredients within the smelting process. During 1846 the company that was known as Carnforth Ironworks established a works within the town close to the railway station.
During the nineteenth century the town of Carnforth grew from a small village into a fairly big railway town and the junction of the three main railways encouraged this. The station facilities closed after the 1960's and the platform that was once used for the main line was removed and as a result of this there are now no express services to the town on the mainline for the West Coast.
